Steve Harvey’s Journey from Homelessness to Fame Inspires Many

WEST VIRGINIA — Steve Harvey, the renowned host of ‘Family Feud,’ has shared his inspiring journey from homelessness to becoming a multimillionaire. At 68, Harvey now runs a media empire, which includes hosting several TV shows and a popular radio program.

However, Harvey’s past was marked by struggle. Once broke and living in his Ford Tempo, he survived on only $50 a week, often eating bologna sandwiches. ‘Because today is temporary; if it all goes right, today will be called yesterday,’ Harvey said in a recent interview. He emphasized that believing in a better tomorrow helped him endure tough times.

Despite his success, Harvey notes that maintaining it is challenging. ‘It’s hard to make money, man, and it’s hard to make a lot of money. But if you think it’s hard to make money, it’s way harder to keep it,’ he stated. He likens success to physical training, comparing it to the difficulty of continuously doing push-ups.

Born in West Virginia, Harvey’s upbringing was modest. His father worked as a coal miner to support their family of five. After attending Kent State University and West Virginia University, he took on various jobs, including a mailman and insurance salesman, often facing unemployment.

The turning point in Harvey’s life came at age 27 when he won $50 at a comedy club. He quit his steady insurance job and pursued comedy full-time. ‘I’ve been running from poverty so long because I was in it for so long,’ he mentioned, explaining his current drive to maintain multiple ventures.

Harvey’s advice to young people is clear: it’s about discovering your unique gift and being comfortable with discomfort. ‘You gotta get comfortable with being uncomfortable if you ever wanna be successful,’ he encouraged.

As Harvey continues to navigate his multiple careers, his journey remains a testament to resilience and the belief that perseverance can lead to success.
