Stuttgart to Host Bayern in Inaugural Franz Beckenbauer Supercup

STUTTGART, Germany — The 2025/26 football season kicks off this Saturday with the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, featuring VfB Stuttgart and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. The match is set to take place at Stuttgart’s MHP Arena, beginning at 20:30 CET.
This prestigious Supercup honors the late German football legend Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away in January 2024. The annual tournament includes the winners of the previous season’s Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
Stuttgart, the DFB-Pokal winners, are competing in the Supercup for the second consecutive year after securing their fourth cup title on May 24, 2025. They will be aiming for their first Supercup victory since 1992.
Bayern Munich has been a dominant force in Bundesliga history, claiming titles in alternating seasons and winning four of their last five matches against Stuttgart. However, Stuttgart dealt Bayern a stunning 3-1 defeat in May 2024, providing them with a morale boost ahead of this weekend’s matchup.
The Supercup will debut a new logo featuring a golden design and an iconic depiction of Beckenbauer. The match will be broadcast live to approximately 200 countries.
On the pitch, both teams are expected to field strong lineups. Stuttgart will depend on players like Undav and Woltemade, while Bayern looks to new signing Luiz Díaz, who is set to make his debut after a high-profile transfer from Liverpool FC for $88 million.
As the kickoff approaches, experts and fans alike are eager to see if Stuttgart can claim the season’s first trophy.
