Phoenix Suns Atlanta Hawks Basketball Game

PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Phoenix Suns experienced a tumultuous game on Sunday night at the Mortgage Matchup Center, resulting in a frustrating 113-108 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Suns started poorly, shooting only 28% in the first quarter and missing 11 of 12 three-point attempts. Head coach Jordan Ott watched as his team struggled but felt relieved when they headed into halftime with a one-point lead after a lackluster first half.

In the third quarter, the Suns finally found their rhythm, showcasing their best basketball with a commanding 24-4 run. However, disbelief set in during the fourth quarter when the Hawks responded with a 20-0 run, capturing the lead and shocking the Suns.

As the game progressed, the Suns led by as many as 22 points in the fourth quarter. Yet, under seven minutes to go, the game took a tense turn when Hawks player Zaccharie Risacher stole the ball from Suns guard Collin Gillespie and raced down the court for a dunk. Risacher took a hard fall after attempting to hang on the rim, raising concerns from the crowd.

Despite the pause in play to check on Risacher, frustrations boiled on the Suns’ bench as they felt the game was halted after they began a possession. Suns players, including Dillon Brooks, were so upset about the stoppage that Brooks received a technical foul. Nickeil Alexander-Walker converted the ensuing free throw, adding to the Hawks’ scoring surge.

The Suns struggled to regroup during critical moments, failing to score for over four minutes. Alexander-Walker’s layup with only 54 seconds left gave the Hawks a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

While the game showcased several strong moments from the Suns, including their ability to dominate stretches, it served as a sobering reminder that success in the NBA relies on playing a full four quarters. Giving up 47 points in the final quarter left the Suns with a bitter aftertaste as the Hawks exited the arena with a surprising victory.
