Super Eagles Coach Defends Zaidu Sanusi's Performance At Afcon

Nigeria‘s Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has come to the defense of left-back Zaidu Sanusi following criticism of his recent performances at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

The FC Porto defender, who has been a regular starter for Nigeria in the tournament, has been targeted as a weak spot in the team. In the recent quarterfinal match against Angola, Sanusi wasted several promising situations that could have resulted in goal-scoring opportunities for the team.

Peseiro, however, defended Sanusi’s performances, stating that it is not easy for the player to adapt to the team’s style, as he is primarily playing as a wingback rather than his traditional role as a left back. The coach acknowledged that Sanusi made a few mistakes in the game but noted that he had a better performance compared to the previous match against Cameroon.

“It’s not easy playing fullback in this system where they must go and come in speed. Zaidu played better in this match than the last match, but I know he made one or two mistakes,” Peseiro said in a post-match conference.

The Super Eagles coach also praised the overall performance of the team and expressed his happiness with their efforts, stating that they deserve praise for their display in the tournament.
