The Super Eagles will be without the services of key players, Olisa Ndah and Victor Osimhen, during the upcoming international break, according to reports from PUNCH Sports Extra. Nigeria is set to play a doubleheader against Libya as part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with matches scheduled for October 11 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium and October 14 at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Libya.

In light of Osimhen’s absence, interim coach Austine Eguavoen has expressed confidence in the replacement strikers, including Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Kelechi Awoniyi. Eguavoen remarked, “The boys are ready to fight for those three points. Every second counts, and we know what it means to get the job done and over with as early as possible. It is going to be tough, but at the end of the day, with the boys we have in the team, they will deliver.”

Osimhen sustained an injury during Galatasaray‘s 3-3 draw with Kasimpasa, after an on-field clash with goalkeeper Andreas Gianniotis. The incident raised concerns about his availability, impacting his participation in both club commitments and the national team duties.

Despite Osimhen’s absence, Eguavoen remains optimistic and highlighted the importance of not underestimating the Libyan side. “They are down, but it doesn’t mean that they can’t rise because they have a couple of games to play,” Eguavoen asserted. “Let’s forget about the past games and look ahead to the Libya game, and our focus is on the home game in front of us.”

Addressing speculation about team selection, Eguavoen denied any allegations that he revealed details about his strategic choices. “The Nigeria national team belongs to every Nigerian in the world who can play football, and we cannot shut the door on anybody because we keep looking for the best,” he clarified. “I have always said and maintained that everybody has a chance to serve the fatherland and we have to try and seize that opportunity and make the best out of it.”

With crucial games ahead in the qualifiers, both Eguavoen and his team seek to maintain focus and avoid distractions, emphasizing a unified front for their campaign.
