Afl Grand Final Melbourne Cricket Ground

Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions are preparing to face off in what promises to be a captivating AFL Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) this Saturday. With both teams eager to redeem themselves after previous grand final disappointments, anticipation is building among the nearly 100,000 fans expected at the venue.

The 2024 final pits Sydney, runners-up in 2022, against Brisbane, the 2023 runners-up, in a contest that aficionados predict will be tight. According to analysts at Fox Footy, the Brisbane Lions are favored to secure victory and become only the second team in this century to claim the premiership from outside the top four. Among 16 expert predictions, 11 favor Brisbane for the win.

Key players such as Isaac Heeney from Sydney and Lachie Neale from Brisbane are popular picks for the Norm Smith Medal, awarded to the best player on the ground. In addition, Lion Charlie Cameron is among those tipped to score the first goal, although the race remains open.

The grand occasion will be complemented by pre-game entertainment featuring international pop sensation Katy Perry, returning to the MCG for a performance following her previous appearance at the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020. Australian artists including Cody Simpson and Christine Anu will perform, bringing both contemporary and traditional music to the event.

Weather conditions in Melbourne are forecast to be favorable for the match, with a senior meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology predicting clear skies and temperatures reaching up to 23 degrees Celsius. This warmth results from a high-pressure system, promising a perfect backdrop for the game.

As for the team line-ups, Sydney remains unchanged with skipper Callum Mills sidelined due to a hamstring injury since September 10. The Lions, however, will see Darcy Fort replacing Oscar McInerney, who is out after injuring his shoulder during their preliminary final against Geelong.

Channel Seven will broadcast the final live across Australia, with streaming available on multiple platforms including the 7Plus app and Kayo for post-match replays. AFL fans outside Australia can view the game via the Watch AFL service.

For those unable to attend the MCG, special live sites in Sydney and Brisbane are available, offering large screens for communal viewing, while Melbourne fans can gather at Federation Square.
