Tagenarine Chanderpaul Cricket India Series

Ahmedabad, IndiaTagenarine Chanderpaul is gearing up for his first Test series in India, following his debut in December 2022. After recently training under his father, legendary West Indies cricketer Shiv Chanderpaul, Tagenarine hopes to make a significant impact in the two-match Test series.

Chanderpaul has faced 1,433 balls and scored 560 runs in 19 innings, averaging 35 in his career so far. Before heading to India, he expressed confidence in his ability to adapt to the conditions, which he described as similar to pitches in his home country.

“About the [Indian] conditions, it’s a bit similar to some pitches back home,” he said. “But just trying and getting some training sessions in and trying to adapt as much as possible.”

Chanderpaul spent the summer captaining Orlando Galaxy in the Minor League Cricket while being coached by his father. He acknowledged that those sessions helped prepare him for the challenges in India.

Facing Indian spinners like R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will be a key test for Chanderpaul, who has struggled against them in previous matches. He reflected on his past experiences, noting the importance of respecting the Indian bowling lineup.

“India has a great bowling line-up,” Chanderpaul said. “You can’t take them for granted.”

Chanderpaul also highlighted his preparation techniques while facing spin bowling: “You’ve got to try and pick the ball up from the hand… get in the right positions early.” His focus remains on establishing a strong start in the series, with hopes of leading West Indies to a successful tour.

Despite having only played in minor league T20s, the young cricketer remains set on performing well in the upcoming Test series. “My priority is this Test series in India,” he concluded.
