Tennessee Titans Release Veteran Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie After Injury-Riddled Season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans have announced the release of cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, just one year into his three-year contract, following a season largely affected by injuries.
Awuzie, who joined the Titans after stints with the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals, participated in eight games in the 2024 season, starting seven. He logged 26 tackles, one interception, and defended four passes, according to team reporter Jim Wyatt.
“Chidobe was brought in to help with our defensive strategy, especially under head coach Brian Callahan, who he had played under in Cincinnati,” Wyatt noted. “However, injuries limited his contributions on the field, and the team has since decided to move on.”
Much of Awuzie’s time with the Titans was spent on the bench as he struggled with injuries during training camp and into the early part of the season. The Titans are now left with cornerbacks Darrell Baker Jr., Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Gabe Jeudy-Lally, and Roger McCreary Jr. in their secondary.
Looking forward, the Titans are expected to seek a replacement for Awuzie in either free agency or during the upcoming NFL Draft scheduled for next month. With the first overall pick, analysts speculate that the Titans might lean toward addressing quarterback or defensive positions. Offers from various experts highlight players such as quarterbacks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, and edge rusher Abdul Carter as potential targets for the Titans.”
As they prepare for the new league year, Tennessee is focusing on building a roster capable of competing, particularly as the NFL Draft approaches. The release of Awuzie marks a significant change in the Titans’ secondary and reflects the organization’s strategic realignment as they prepare for the upcoming season.
