HOUSTON – C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans face a significant challenge as they prepare to take on the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday. With Pro Bowl wide receiver Nico Collins sidelined due to a concussion and starting slot receiver Christian Kirk out with a hamstring injury, Stroud must adapt to a new offensive lineup.

Collins, the Texans’ primary downfield threat, and Kirk have both been pivotal to the team’s passing game. In their absence, the Texans will rely heavily on veteran tight end Dalton Schultz and rookie wide receivers Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins.

“I just want to see Higgins and Noel do what they’ve done, and that’s just be the guys they are,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “They don’t have to do anything extra. If they have more opportunities, it means they can make more plays.”

Noel is coming off a strong performance, having caught four passes for 77 yards against the Seattle Seahawks. He also scored his first NFL touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens earlier this season.

“My preparation stays the same, preparing like I’m the No. 1 guy mentally,” Noel said. “I have full confidence in myself and in my teammates.”

Ryans highlighted Noel’s impact, noting he “showed up big time” in crucial moments during the last game. Noel has recorded nine catches for 99 yards and one touchdown this season.

Higgins has also contributed, with nine receptions totaling 121 yards and one score. He believes attention to detail in practice translates to game success. “It comes down to executing in the moment when the play comes,” Higgins said.

Schultz remains Stroud’s most reliable option, leading the Texans with 30 catches and ranking second in receiving yards at 284. He caught nine passes for 98 yards against Seattle. “He’s super reliable, not only just on the field, but off the field,” Stroud said. “He’s been a brother to me.”

Despite these efforts, the Texans fell short against the Seahawks, losing 27-19. Schultz acknowledged the team’s need for improvement, stating, “We didn’t do enough.”

As the Texans look forward to Sunday’s matchup, there is hope that the younger players can rise to the occasion and contribute significantly against a strong 49ers defense.
