Arch Manning Texas Football Comeback

STARKVILLE, Mississippi — The Texas Longhorns pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks in school history, defeating Mississippi State 45-38 in overtime on Saturday. The No. 22 ranked Longhorns, now 6-2, were down 38-14 entering the fourth quarter but refused to back down.

Texas faced adversity throughout the game, playing without injured All-American safety Michael Taaffe and losing veteran offensive guard DJ Campbell to a right-leg injury early on. Despite these challenges, the Longhorns rallied with a strong performance led by quarterback Arch Manning, who threw for a career-high 346 yards and three touchdowns.

The fourth quarter saw Texas score 24 points, beginning with a rushing touchdown by Manning. With the game tied at 38, Manning completed a touchdown pass to Emmett Mosley IV in overtime before leaving to undergo concussion protocols after taking a hit during a rushing attempt.

Backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell stepped in for Manning and threw the go-ahead touchdown to Mosley, sealing the victory. Caldwell’s touchdown was his first of the season after previously serving as a reserve.

The Longhorns struggled defensively, allowing 451 yards from the Bulldogs, including key plays from Mississippi State’s quarterback Blake Shapen. However, defensive end Ethan Burke made a crucial fourth-down strip sack to secure the win.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Manning’s health, he appeared alert as he watched Caldwell throw the game-winning touchdown. The Longhorns’ comeback victory keeps their playoff hopes alive, improving their chances after coming into the game with a 13% likelihood of making the playoffs.

Head Coach Steve Sarkisian will have to address Manning’s condition soon, as Texas prepares for its next matchup. For now, Longhorns fans can enjoy this significant win, reigniting hopes for the remainder of the season.
