Texas Tech Prepares for Showdown with BYU Amid Coach’s Commitment
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 8 Texas Tech is set for a critical game against No. 7 BYU on Saturday as the Red Raiders aim to secure a playoff berth. After a recent 26-22 upset loss to Arizona State on October 18, Texas Tech’s hopes largely depend on winning the Big 12 championship.
Head coach Joey McGuire shared his dedication to the program during an appearance on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show.” McGuire stated, “I was born in Texas, and I’ll die in Texas, and hopefully not anytime soon. But I’m gonna die a Red Raider.” His overall record with Texas Tech stands at 31-17, including 21-12 in Big 12 play.
This season marks McGuire’s fourth year as head coach. A victory over BYU would make history as the first time the team has achieved nine wins in a season under his leadership. He emphasized his affection for Lubbock, calling it a true college town that thrives on its association with the university.
The Red Raiders have not clinched a conference title since 1994. Winning Saturday’s game could enhance McGuire’s legacy in Lubbock and boost the team’s prospects for a standout season.
Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Jones AT&T Stadium, with fans eager to see if Texas Tech can turn their season around.
