TGL: Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s Tech-Rich Golf League Set to Launch in January 2025
The TGL (Tiger and Rory Golf League), a highly anticipated tech-rich golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is finally set to launch on January 7, 2025, after a year-long delay. The league was initially scheduled to start in January 2024 but was postponed due to severe damage to the hosting arena, the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, following a power failure.
The TGL aims to revolutionize the game of golf by leveraging state-of-the-art technology. The league will feature a 64 feet by 46 feet simulator developed by Full Swing and a short-game complex with three virtual greens and 3,800 square feet of real-life putting space. The custom-built stadium at Palm Beach State College includes real grass and a screen significantly larger than normal simulators.
The league format involves six teams, each with four players, competing in a weekly format. Each week, two teams will compete over 15 holes, divided into two sessions: nine holes of Triples (3 vs 3 alternate shot) and six holes of Singles featuring a rotating head-to-head format. Only three players from each team will participate on a week-by-week basis.
The teams are geographically based, representing different areas across the United States. Notable players include Justin Thomas for Atlanta Drive GC, Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley for Boston Common, Tiger Woods for Jupiter Links, and Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, and Tommy Fleetwood for Los Angeles GC. Other teams include New York, led by Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele, and The Bay, representing the San Francisco area with Shane Lowry and Ludvig Aberg.
The TGL season will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+ in the United States, with additional coverage in Canada on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+, Fox Sports Australia, U-NEXT in Japan, and JTBC Golf Channel in Korea. Each match is scheduled to take place over two hours in front of a live audience.
