Thousands Left Without Power as Winter Storm Hits PPL Electric Service Area
A significant winter storm has caused widespread power outages across the service territory of PPL Electric, affecting approximately 45,000 customers as of 7 a.m. on November 22, 2024. The storm brought a mix of wind, rain, and heavy wet snow, particularly in the northern areas, leading to the disruptions.
Despite the challenging conditions, PPL Electric crews have been working diligently to restore power. Since the storm began, they have managed to restore electricity to about 13,000 customers. However, strong winds and additional snow in some areas are expected to continue, which may cause further travel difficulties and power outages.
Hundreds of personnel, including lineworkers, foresters, damage assessors, and call center staff, are involved in the emergency response operations. These teams are working around the clock to ensure power is restored as safely and quickly as possible. Customers are advised to check the status of their outages and estimated restoration times online at pplelectric.com/outage.
To ensure safety, PPL Electric encourages customers to report power outages online or by texting “Outage” to TXTPPL (898775). They also recommend signing up for alerts to stay connected and receive outage updates. Additionally, customers are warned to assume any downed wire is energized and to stay away, reporting such incidents to PPL Electric or local emergency response agencies.
Other safety tips include using flashlights instead of candles, turning off appliances that were on when the power went off, and creating alternate plans for those with medical conditions that rely on electricity. Customers are also advised to check on elderly family members and neighbors who may need assistance during the outage period).
