Nba Playoffs Thunder Vs Nuggets Highlights

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Thunder coach Mark Daigneault stood firm in his support for Chet Holmgren after the player faced criticism following Game 1 against the Denver Nuggets on Monday night. Holmgren missed two crucial free throws that could have put the Thunder ahead with just 9.5 seconds left in the game.

On Tuesday, Daigneault described his conversation with Holmgren as personal but emphasized the team’s collective backing for the second-year player. “He’s the last guy I’m worried about,” Daigneault said. He praised Holmgren for his resilience and noted how hard he has worked to come back from injuries that sidelined him during the previous season.

Holmgren’s missed free throws allowed the Nuggets to secure a last-minute victory, but his teammates stressed that the outcome was not solely due to his performance. “There are so many factors that factor into the game,” Thunder guard Jalen Williams said. “That’s not why we lost the game.”

Daigneault reiterated the importance of teamwork: “This is a particular group that wraps their arms around that guy,” he said, referring to Holmgren. The coach underscored the need for the team to stay connected even through tough moments.

Holmgren had his own challenges during the game, but he contributed significantly, scoring 12 points, recording six rebounds, and making four blocks. Daigneault highlighted Holmgren’s capability to challenge Nuggets star Nikola Jokić, who dominated with 42 points and 22 rebounds.

“Chet does a nice job on him,” Daigneault mentioned. “His length can be effective.” Despite the game’s outcome, the Thunder’s focus now shifts to Game 2, where they hope to reclaim their home-court advantage.

“We’re going to find out what we’re made of,” guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said, reflecting on the importance of bouncing back. “It’s about how you respond to getting knocked down.”
