Tigers Rally to Force Game 5 with 9-3 Victory Over Mariners

DETROIT, Michigan — The Detroit Tigers kept their postseason hopes alive with a crucial 9-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners in Game 4 of the American League Division Series on Oct. 8, 2025. The win tied the best-of-five series at 2-2, forcing a decisive Game 5 in Seattle on Oct. 10.
After falling behind 3-0, the Tigers roared back with three runs in the fifth inning, followed by four more in the sixth. Riley Greene, who hit his first career postseason home run, played a pivotal role in the comeback. “This is what you play for, to help your team win when it counts,” Greene said with enthusiasm.
Other key contributors included Javier Báez, who added a two-run homer and an RBI single, and Gleyber Torres, who also launched a solo home run during the game. The offensive explosion took place at Comerica Park in front of a crowd of 37,069 fans.
The Tigers needed the win after losing Game 3 and faced elimination if they failed to perform in Game 4. “We just showed the heart of this team. We didn’t give up,” manager A.J. Hinch said following the game.
Will Vest closed out the game effectively, silencing the Mariners and securing the win for Detroit. With the series tied, both teams now head back to T-Mobile Park, where the stakes will be high for Game 5, with the winner advancing to the American League Championship Series.
The victory marked the first time since 2013 that the Tigers have an opportunity to advance to the ALCS.
