Hollywood actor Tom Cruise is set to headline two major non-franchise films in 2025, halting temporarily from his popular ‘Mission: Impossible’ series. The announcement has intrigued cinephiles, given Cruise’s choice of collaborators for the upcoming projects.

The first film teams Cruise with acclaimed director Alejandro G. Iñàrritu. Although the film remains untitled, it boasts a formidable cast including Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde. Shooting is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2025. Details surrounding the plot are sparse, but Cruise is revealed to portray “the most powerful man in the world,” who must prove himself as a savior amid a global disaster.

Following the Iñàrritu project, Cruise will promote ‘Mission: Impossible 8,’ set for a May 23, 2025 release. A premiere at the Cannes Film Festival is highly anticipated, considering the previous success of “Top Gun: Maverick” at the event.

Cruise’s second film venture in 2025 is ‘Broadsword’, directed by Christopher McQuarrie. Set during World War II, the film focuses on an SOE operation and stars Cruise as a marine captain stranded in France. The project, based on an original story by McQuarrie, is rumored to feature Marion Cotillard and Henry Cavill alongside Cruise.

In a related note, industry speculations suggest that a third ‘Top Gun’ installment might be in the pipeline, potentially starting production in 2026. Actor Glen Powell has indicated ongoing script development, fueling excitement among fans of the iconic series.
