On the 7th of May, the collaboration between Canada’s Music Incubator (CMI) and TD Music brought forth a musical celebration at Union Station to honor Asian Heritage Month. The event showcased the talents of artists Ethan Low and Gurtêj, offering a free performance to the public.

Ethan Low, an emerging 23-year-old R&B-pop singer and songwriter hailing from Toronto, unveiled that his music journey began with penning tunes for other artists back in 2015. However, it was only last year that he shifted focus to establishing himself as a solo artist. His debut record, BUBBLY, swiftly rose to claim the impressive #5 spot on the Global Viral Charts.

Speaking of his inspirations, Low shared that he draws heavily from his own life experiences. Being a Malaysian-Singaporean-Canadian, he has spent significant time immersed in both Canadian and Asian cultures, influencing his musical style. Low aims to blend the gritty, urban R&B vibe of Toronto with the infectious melodies often found in Asian music.

Jesse Mitchell, the vice-president of Canada’s Music Incubator, a stalwart with over two decades of experience in the Canadian music scene, underlined the organization’s role in nurturing aspiring artists with invaluable mentorship resources at no cost. Mitchell expressed gratitude towards TD Music and Union Station for enabling events like this, which merge music with cultural celebrations.

Mitchell underscored the collaborative spirit of the event, mentioning the significance of TD Music Hall and the Union Station gathering in marking Asian Heritage Month. He emphasized the importance of uniting diverse voices and fostering inclusivity in the Canadian entertainment landscape for a more positive, harmonious future for all.

Anticipation rose as Mitchell revealed his eagerness for Ethan Low’s performance, reminiscing about the awe-inspiring talent displayed at Low’s earlier sold-out show at TD Music Hall. In response, Low expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, promising a set list that includes a sneak peek at unreleased tracks from his upcoming 2000’s-inspired project, tailored to delight the audience.

As the event draws nearer, fans will have the chance to experience Low’s intimate set firsthand, complete with anecdotes about his musical journey. The fusion of music, culture, and celebration at Union Station promises an evening of music and reflection for all attendees to enjoy.
