NEW YORK, NY – Trent Grisham has emerged as a key player for the New York Yankees in the early part of the 2025 MLB season. After 29 games and 95 plate appearances, Grisham boasts a remarkable wRC+ of 187, significantly higher than fellow teammate Juan Soto.

At this point, Grisham has matched his 2024 home run total of nine, a testament to his improved performance. With a batting average of .289 and an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .631, Grisham has carved out a vital role in the Yankees’ lineup.

“I came into this season with a more aggressive approach, and it’s really paying off,” said Grisham, reflecting on his significant increase in swing rate. He is now swinging at 41.4 percent of pitches, which is a considerable jump from last year. His approach includes going for the first pitch more often, currently at 27.4 percent compared to last season.

Despite facing more challenging pitching strategies, Grisham is maintaining excellent discipline at the plate. His walk rate remains in the double digits, and he has notably reduced his strikeout rate to 18.9 percent, nearly ten points lower than previous seasons. His whiff rate and chase rate also rank in the highest percentiles.

Grisham’s offensive achievements are compounded by his solid defensive play, having earned accolades as a two-time Gold Glove winner. The Yankees have benefitted from his contributions, especially during the absence of star player Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger‘s underwhelming performance.

With a stellar start to the season, Grisham has positioned himself as an essential asset for the Yankees, providing both offensive power and defensive stability as the year progresses.
