Tribeca Festival Returns with Major Star Power and New Music Films

NEW YORK — The Tribeca Festival returns to New York City, attracting movie lovers for its 24th year. Co-founders Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal aim to revitalize Lower Manhattan, a mission sparked after the 9/11 attacks. To date, their efforts have resulted in over $1 billion in economic impact for the city.
De Niro, speaking on the festival, reflected on his early influences from classic films. ‘When I was a kid, I would watch, you know, the movies. Brando films, James Dean… They inspired me in some way, changed my generation,’ he said.
This year, the festival will showcase more than 100 feature films, including premieres, discussions, and music-focused events. Rosenthal expressed excitement for the diverse lineup. ‘All the music films that we’re doing, there’s just such a great lineup,’ she shared. Featured films include documentaries on Billy Idol, with additional projects involving Slick Rick, Nas, and Kid Cudi.
One highlight of the festival is the world premiere of Miley Cyrus’ pop opera film, ‘Something Beautiful.’ The festival will also host performances from artists like Billy Idol, Becky G, and Eddie Vedder.
Fans of classic films can look forward to reunions of beloved movies such as ‘Best in Show,’ ‘Requiem For a Dream,’ ‘American Psycho,’ ‘Casino,’ and ‘Meet the Parents.’
De Niro reminisced about an enjoyable project from his past, stating, ‘I think ‘Midnight Run,’ I had fun doing that with Martin Brest and George Gallo… It was just fun.’
