Trinidad Chambliss Ole Miss Quarterback

OXFORD, Miss. — Trinidad Chambliss is set to make his third consecutive start at quarterback for the Ole Miss Rebels this Saturday against No. 4 LSU as Austin Simmons continues to recover from an ankle injury. Sources confirmed the news to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Chambliss, a transfer from Ferris State, has impressed in his two starts, leading the Rebels to a perfect 2-0 record while accounting for five total touchdowns. He has completed 67.7% of his passes for 719 yards and four touchdowns, adding another 195 yards and two rushing scores on the ground.

In his last outing against Tulane, Chambliss went 17-of-27 for 307 yards and two touchdowns, also racking up 112 rushing yards. His performance has started to draw comparisons to former Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, highlighting his dual-threat ability that has energized the Rebels’ offense, currently ranked ninth nationally.

Meanwhile, Simmons, who started the season as the team’s No. 1 quarterback, has struggled to return fully to form after suffering an ankle injury against Kentucky on September 6. Although he has made progress, he is still not at 100%. Head coach Lane Kiffin has not ruled out Simmons as he recovers but emphasized the importance of making a cautious decision.

“We’ll have to evaluate Simmons’ health and then make a decision,” Kiffin said. “Today was just a walkthrough, so not enough to evaluate. At 100% he’s our starting quarterback, but we don’t know what percentage he’ll be.”

As both teams prepare for the matchup, LSU’s own quarterback situation seems more stable with Jayden Daniels leading the Tigers’ offense. Daniels has kept his team undefeated through the first four games. LSU’s defense, ranked 17th in yards allowed and 9th in scoring, will face a formidable challenge in Chambliss.

The stakes for Saturday’s contest are high, with both teams aiming for a decisive advantage in the Southeastern Conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ABC, as fans eagerly anticipate what promises to be an intense SEC showdown in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
