R Truth Wrestling Memories With Road Dogg

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — WWE star R-Truth recently reflected on the critical role that Road Dogg played in his wrestling career during an appearance on a podcast.

Truth, whose real name is Ronnie Aaron Killings, nearly gave up on his dream of becoming a professional wrestler while training in Memphis Championship Wrestling. He joined WWE and was sent to Memphis, promising a call-up after six months. However, personal struggles and slow progress made him question his future in the sport.

In a candid moment on the podcast, Truth shared, “I’m in Memphis training, training, training. Six months came. Seven months came, nothing. I was having issues at home, I was discouraged. I felt like a failure. I felt like I was ready to quit.”

His turning point came when Road Dogg came to see him perform. After Truth dropped the title to Jerry Lawler, he returned to the locker room where Road Dogg congratulated him and expressed his interest in partnering with Truth.

“He was like, ‘I want you to be,'” Truth recounted, expressing shock at Road Dogg’s interest. Despite his feelings of inadequacy, Road Dogg encouraged him to stick it out for three more months, assuring him that he would bring him up to WWE.

After following this advice, Truth received a call from WWE within two months, leading to his debut as K-Kwik. He reflected on how pivotal that conversation was for him, stating, “I wasn’t going back to the streets. I didn’t know what I was going back to.”

His journey demonstrates how vital mentorship can be in the wrestling industry and serves as an inspiration for those facing similar struggles.
