Two Arrested in Meth Bust Following High-Speed Chase in Georgia

In Butts County, Georgia, two men were apprehended after a police chase resulted in a substantial drug bust, local authorities reported. According to the Butts County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began with an attempted traffic stop along Interstate 75 on Wednesday night.

Butts County Sheriff Gary Long praised the efforts of his Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team for their role in the arrests. Sheriff Long explained that deputies attempted to stop a vehicle traveling southbound at mile marker 201. However, the driver failed to comply and diverted eastbound onto Highway 36. A Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver was employed by deputies to halt the vehicle.

Following the maneuver, the two suspects attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended by law enforcement officials. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 30 pounds of methamphetamine in the trunk, authorities stated.

The suspects were identified as Tyresse James Fields of Kissimmee, Florida, and Thomas Charles Jones of Thomasville, Georgia. Officials noted that Jones was driving under the influence at the time of the arrest and is also wanted in Lowndes County.

Sheriff Long expressed his pride in his team, stating, “I have the best trained, highly motivated and dedicated deputies of any sheriff’s office in the country.” The suspects now face various charges related to the incident and possession of methamphetamine.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Butts County Sheriff’s Office to curb illegal drug activity in the region, with the incident attracting significant local attention and acknowledgment from law enforcement agencies.
