UEFA Nations League: England to Face Greece at Wembley
England‘s national football team is gearing up for a crucial UEFA Nations League match against Greece, scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium in London on Friday, October 11. The match is set to begin at 12:15 AM IST. This fixture comes as part of England’s ongoing campaign in the Nations League under the direction of interim manager Lee Carsley.
Dominic Solanke, the Tottenham Hotspur striker, makes a notable return to the national squad under Carsley’s stewardship. Solanke, who last played for England’s senior team seven years ago, is part of a refreshed line-up including Aston Villa‘s Ollie Watkins. Watkins had previously withdrawn from the squad due to personal reasons, but now rejoins the team.
The England manager is keen to explore different player options, which has resulted in no selection for Tottenham’s James Maddison, Manchester United‘s Harry Maguire, or Crystal Palace‘s Eberechi Eze. “It’s not about form,” Carsley explained, “but rather looking at other options for the upcoming games.” Carsley has seen success since taking over from Gareth Southgate, having achieved victories against Ireland and Finland.
In preparation for their match against Greece, England’s probable line-up includes goalkeeper Pickford; defenders Alexander-Arnold, Guehi, Stones, and Lewis; midfielders Rice and Mainoo; with Saka, Palmer, Gordon, and Kane taking up the offensive positions.
Greece, led by manager Ivan Jovanovic, also remain unbeaten in the tournament. The Greek side, having secured wins against Finland and the Republic of Ireland, are confident contenders. Jovanovic’s probable line-up features players such as Vlachodimos in goal, with defenders Rota, Mavropanos, Koulierakis, and Tsimikas. The midfield and attack will likely include Mantalos, Bouchalakis, Bakasetas, Konstantelias, Ioannidis, and Pelkas.
The England vs Greece match will be broadcast live on the Sony Sports network, with live streaming available on the SonyLIV app and website in India. As the third match in the group stage, the outcome is crucial for both teams aiming to secure their top positions in the Nations League standings.
