Ukraine War Latest: Russian Drone Attacks, British National Captured, and Escalating Tensions
The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has intensified in recent days, marked by significant drone attacks and escalating tensions. Russia launched one of its largest drone attacks since the invasion, with Kyiv‘s military reporting that 71 out of 145 drones were shot down, while the whereabouts of another 71 drones were lost due to electronic warfare.
In the aftermath of the drone attacks, at least 23 people were injured in missile strikes on Kharkiv and Odesa. Authorities in Kharkiv reported that 40 buildings were damaged, and in Odesa, at least 10 people were wounded. The attacks have resulted in widespread air raid alerts across Ukrainian territory, including Kyiv and its surrounding regions.
In a separate development, Russian authorities have captured a 22-year-old British national, James Scott Rhys Anderson, who was fighting alongside Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region. Videos purportedly showing his interrogation by Russian authorities have surfaced.
Ukraine has also conducted counter-attacks, targeting an oil depot in Russia’s western Kaluga region, as well as targets in Bryansk and Kursk. This comes amid heightened tensions following Ukraine’s use of US-supplied long-range missiles to strike Russian territory, which Moscow claims it is preparing to respond to.
The conflict has drawn international attention, with Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko criticizing American podcast host Joe Rogan for promoting what Klitschko described as Russian propaganda. Klitschko argued that Rogan’s comments about the potential for a Third World War were misguided and that Putin’s strategy was failing due to Ukrainian resistance.
