University of Iowa Reveals Future Football Schedule with Rivalry Matchups
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The University of Iowa Hawkeyes will face in-state rivals Iowa State and Northern Iowa in future football games, as announced on Thursday.
Next fall, the Hawkeyes will host three non-conference games at Kinnick Stadium, including matchups against Northern Illinois on September 5, Iowa State on September 12, and Northern Iowa on September 19.
The rivalry game between Iowa and Iowa State will be renewed again in 2027, occurring on September 11 at Jack Trice Stadium. The scheduled match against Northern Iowa will follow on September 1, 2029.
According to the Hawkeyes’ confirmed future schedule, the following games are already set: 2026 – Northern Illinois (Sept. 5), Iowa State (Sept. 12), and UNI (Sept. 19); 2027 – Ball State (Sept. 4), at Iowa State (Sept. 11), North Dakota (Sept. 18); 2028 – Western Michigan (Sept. 16); 2029 – UNI (Sept. 1) and Northern Illinois (Sept. 15); 2030 – Florida Atlantic (Aug. 31).
The last time Iowa played Northern Iowa, the Hawkeyes won decisively 38-14 in 2018. Historically, Iowa boasts a perfect record against UNI, holding a 7-0 advantage in their series.
Chad Leistikow from the Des Moines Register reported that the Hawkeyes also locked in a second game against Northern Iowa for 2029 while confirming a matchup against North Dakota for 2027.
As Iowa navigates the 2025-26 season, both the football team and fans can look forward to these upcoming contests, especially with the anticipation of facing the Cyclones next fall.
