Rangers‘ player Vaclav Cerny was unable to participate in the match against Dundee United due to illness. The 26-year-old Czech winger has been a consistent presence in the team since joining on loan from Wolfsburg over the summer.

It was anticipated that Cerny would play in today’s game. However, he fell ill during a recent training session, prompting a decision to keep him at home. Kieran Dowell was selected to replace him in the starting lineup.

Speaking before the match, manager Clement explained, “Cerny was expected to start. He trained yesterday but suddenly felt unwell during the session and became seriously ill later in the day, experiencing multiple episodes of vomiting. He felt even worse this morning.”

Clement emphasized that the situation is not related to an injury. As a result, Kieran Dowell was brought into the team. Clement also mentioned Oscar, who is recovering from a long-term injury and gradually returning to peak condition, indicating it was an appropriate moment to introduce him into the lineup.

The manager expected a challenging game at Tannadice as he aims to lead Rangers back to a victory. “Every game is crucial throughout the season,” he told BBC Scotland. “That’s the expectation at Rangers – to win almost every game, separating domestic league matches from European competitions.

“Dundee United are a significant opponent, having gained momentum from their promotion and strong league start. On a compact pitch with numerous duels, we anticipate a tough match,” Clement added.
