Alexander Volkanovski Ufc 314 Fight Preparation

MIAMI – Former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is set to reclaim his title in a highly anticipated matchup against Diego Lopes at UFC 314 on April 12. After experiencing a 14-month break from competition, the 36-year-old Australian is returning to the Octagon with renewed focus, aiming to silence his doubters.

Volkanovski, known for his resilience and skill in the ring, has faced scrutiny surrounding his age and recent performances, including knockout losses to Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria. Despite two defeats in his last fights, he enters UFC 314 as a slight -120 favorite according to DraftKings odds.

“I love being in this position,” Volkanovski told UFC.com. “I guess I used to care more about proving myself when I was younger. Now, I embrace the doubt. It motivates me.”

With a reign as champion that lasted over 1,500 days and five successful title defenses, Volkanovski has established himself as one of the greatest in UFC history. His career victories include notable wins over fighters like Max Holloway and José Aldo. Yet, his recent setbacks have prompted questions about his motivation and ability to compete at the highest level.

In his training, Volkanovski emphasized a disciplined diet and a rigorous regimen. “This is the leanest I’ve ever been,” he stated, reflecting on the extensive preparation leading up to the fight. “I went above and beyond in my camp, completely focused on my training and health without any distractions.”

The matchup against Lopes presents a fresh challenge for Volkanovski. Lopes, who has been on a five-fight winning streak since his UFC debut, is seen as a dangerous contender. “He’s going to be very uncomfortable with the fact that, ‘I have no answer, no matter where we go,’” Volkanovski noted, indicating his confidence in his diverse skill set.

As fight night approaches, Volkanovski is determined to prove that he remains a top contender in the division. “I know I still got a lot left in me,” he said. “This weekend marks the start of my new title reign.”

The stakes are high for Volkanovski. Should he emerge victorious, he seeks not only to reclaim his title but also to solidify his legacy within the UFC. “This is something people write books about. The comeback is going to be real,” he added.

UFC 314 will take place at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, with prelims starting at 8 p.m. ET and the main card kicking off at 10 p.m. ET. All eyes will be on Volkanovski as he returns to the Octagon, focused on reclaiming his place as champion.
