Sinners Movie Ryan Coogler Soundtrack

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Ryan Coogler’s film ‘Sinners‘ is positioned as a top contender for this year’s Academy Awards, yet Warner Bros. has only submitted two original songs for consideration in the Best Original Song category.

While the film includes a soundtrack filled with original tracks, the studio chose to submit “I Lied to You” by Raphael Saadiq and Ludwig Göransson and “Last Time (I Seen the Sun),” co-written by lead actor Miles Caton and Göransson. The decision was made to reduce the risk of splitting votes, even though many fans expressed disappointment over the exclusion of a song featuring Hailee Steinfeld.

Insiders suggest that Warner Bros. targeted this strategy to enhance their chances amid stiff competition, particularly from films like ‘One Battle After Another.’ Oscar rules state that no more than three songs from a single film can be submitted, which left room for one additional song, but the studio opted for an approach that maximizes its impact.

“I Lied to You” is featured prominently in one of the film’s most intense sequences, while “Last Time (I Seen the Sun)” plays during the credits, potentially giving Caton a second opportunity for recognition alongside already emerging Best Supporting Actor buzz.

The exclusion of Steinfeld’s song was largely attributed to the Academy’s requirements that any original song must be clearly audible within the context of the film. As such, her piece did not meet these criteria, although it may still qualify for other awards like the Grammys.

Despite the strategic narrowing of song submissions, some fans are vocal about their disappointment, claiming that Steinfeld’s entry should have been included due to its unique qualities. The ongoing conversation underscores the high stakes involved as award nominations approach.

Ultimately, the decision to limit submissions may indicate Warner Bros.’ commitment to ensuring ‘Sinners’ remains a strong player as the Oscars race intensifies this season.
