GURNEE, Illinois — Javon Brisker, a senior linebacker at Warren High School, is making waves on the football field, drawing inspiration from his older brother, Jaquan Brisker, who plays safety for the Chicago Bears.

The two brothers, who see each other almost daily, share a close bond. “He’s always giving me tips on how I should play,” said Javon Brisker. “After the game, he’s always critical of what I can do better. He’s just always trying to get me better every day.”

Javon, who recently moved to the northern suburbs after Jaquan was drafted by the Bears in 2022, has quickly become one of Warren’s standout defensive players this season. “We could always see his upside, but he didn’t play with a lot of discipline,” said Warren coach Bryan McNulty. “This year, he really committed himself to the weight room and to our culture, and he’s really come into his own.”

During a recent game against Stevenson, which ended in a 28-13 victory for Warren, Javon showcased his skills with a crucial interception in the fourth quarter. “I was supposed to be a QB spy. But he didn’t run out of the pocket, so I stayed where I was at, and somebody tipped the ball up, and I just jumped up and got it,” he explained.

This interception was part of a game where the Blue Devils secured their playoff spot, remaining tied with Lake Zurich for the top position in the North Suburban Conference. McNulty highlighted Javon’s significant impact on the team, noting how he transitioned from outside linebacker to a vital middle linebacker role.

“He does a lot for us in the middle of that defense,” McNulty said. “He has a huge role in our defense and embraces it.” Javon feels the weight of that responsibility. “I’m the leader of the defense, so of course the coaches trust me and put me in spots where I can make a difference,” he said, adding that he strives to improve each week.

The guidance from Jaquan has been essential for Javon. “He helps me with things like getting off of blocks and coaching me up,” said Javon. They analyze plays together, and Javon has learned to correct his techniques. “He points out that I don’t stay square and how I come downhill to the ball.”

Javon’s performance has caught the attention of his teammates. “This year, he’s really stepped up as a leader,” one teammate remarked. “He’s become an example to follow and brings a lot of energy.”

Looking ahead, Javon expressed his aspirations for the team, stating, “We want the conference title and then more.”
