The Penrith Panthers have turned heads in the rugby league world with the signing of Wests Tigers forward Isaiah Papali’i on a three-year deal set to commence in the 2025 NRL season. The move marks a significant shift for Papali’i, who has traversed through the NRL with stints at multiple clubs.

Having made his NRL debut in 2017, the New Zealand international has notched up an impressive 148 first-grade games for the Warriors, Eels, and the Wests Tigers, showcasing his experience and versatility in the competition.

Papali’i’s stellar performance in 2021, where he was recognized as the Dally M Second Rower of the Year, solidified his status as a world-class forward. His representation of New Zealand on 10 occasions, along with a Test match for Toa Samoa in 2018, further highlights his international pedigree.

Panthers’ Rugby League CEO Matt Cameron expressed his excitement over securing Papali’i’s services, emphasizing the player’s leadership qualities and proven track record at the highest level. General Manager of Rugby League Shane Elford echoed this sentiment, praising Papali’i’s exceptional skills, attitude, and work ethic.

The Panthers’ acquisition of Papali’i comes in the wake of James Fisher-Harris’ impending departure to the Warriors, providing a strategic reinforcement to the team’s forward pack. Papali’i’s signing offers Penrith a dynamic edge option, with hopes high that he will rediscover the form that earned him accolades in the past.
