Winnipeg Jets Acquire Colin Miller in Last Minute Trade Deadline Deal
The Winnipeg Jets made a significant move in the final moments before the NHL trade deadline, securing defenseman Colin Miller from the New Jersey Devils. Miller, a seasoned nine-year veteran who has played for various teams including Boston, Vegas, Buffalo, and Dallas, was acquired by the Jets to boost their defensive depth.
The 31-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. native had joined the Devils earlier in this season and contributed four goals and four assists in 41 games with the team. Known for his solid defensive play, Miller showcased his skills during the 2018 playoffs, where he made an impact in the Stanley Cup Final against the Jets as a member of the Golden Knights.
With a career-high 10 goals and 41 points in a previous season, Miller brings experience and versatility to the Jets’ blue line as they gear up for a playoff push this year. Notably, Miller’s current contract is set to expire after this season, making him a valuable short-term acquisition for Winnipeg.
In exchange for Miller, the Jets reportedly traded a fourth-round draft pick in 2026 to the Devils. This trade came on the heels of another significant move by the Jets earlier in the day, which saw them acquiring winger Tyler Toffoli from New Jersey as well.
