The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) high school football playoffs saw an exciting Friday night with several key matchups and surprising upsets. One of the standout games was the 4A quarterfinal match between Mars and Montour, where Mars pulled off a dramatic upset with a 48-42 victory. This win propelled Mars into the 4A WPIAL semi-finals, highlighting the intense competition in the playoffs.

In another notable game, Bethel Park dominated Latrobe with a final score of 42-7. Hollidaysburg also had a strong performance, defeating Allderdice 41-8. Freeport secured a significant win over Mt. Pleasant with a score of 44-20.

Other notable scores include Franklin Regional leading North Hills 17-16 in the fourth quarter, and Thomas Jefferson leading West Allegheny 14-0. Riverside and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) were in a defensive stalemate, with Riverside eventually leading 14-0. Leechburg managed to tie their game against Springdale 20-20 in the fourth quarter.

Aliquippa had a strong first half, leading Trinity 21-0 at the break. Penn-Trafford was ahead of South Fayette 21-14 at halftime, with South Fayette’s Ben Cavenaugh making a touchdown catch and Luck Gillen adding the extra point.
