Wrexham Bolton Efl Trophy Match Highlights

WREXHAM, WalesWrexham AFC progressed to the EFL Trophy semi-finals on February 11, 2025, defeating Bolton Wanderers 4-1 at the Racecourse Ground. This victory showcases Wrexham’s recent resurgence after a slow start to the season.

Wrexham’s journey in the competition began with a shocking first-minute goal from Ronan Curtis, who found the net from an acute angle, putting Bolton ahead early in the game. However, Wrexham responded quickly, leveling the score through Andy Cannon in the 33rd minute, before Harry Ashfield scored his first senior goal to put Wrexham ahead shortly after halftime.

Wrexham continued to dominate as Elliot Lee, who scored the late winner against Crawley in League One last week, extended the lead in the 69th minute. The final goal of the night came from Mo Faal, sealing a convincing win for the hosts.

“We showed great character after conceding early. Scoring quickly after going behind gave us the momentum to take control of the match,” said Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham’s strong form in recent weeks has revitalized their season, moving them to the top of League Two. This victory against League One’s Bolton is a testament to their upward trajectory.

On the other hand, Bolton, under the management of Steven Schumacher, now faces scrutiny after being knocked out of the trophy, following a string of mixed performances in the league.

“This was a disappointing result for us. We need to regroup and focus on our League One campaign going forward,” Schumacher stated after the match.

The semi-finals will see Wrexham face their next opponent yet to be determined, as they aim for further glory in this competition.
