Justin Engel Stuttgart Open Tennis

STUTTGART, Germany – June 12, 2025 – Seventeen-year-old Justin Engel made headlines on Thursday by reaching the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart Open, becoming the youngest player to achieve this milestone in the event’s history.

Engel, a rising star in tennis, secured his spot in the quarterfinals after defeating American seventh seed Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-4. The victory was particularly notable as it was Engel’s first professional match on grass prior to this tournament.

“I broke serve in the third game of both sets and held on my service games without facing a break point,” Engel said after his match. His impressive performance has rocketed him up the ATP rankings, moving from No. 281 to No. 232.

In another significant matchup, German top seed Alexander Zverev fought through a tough match against Frenchman Corentin Moutet, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(7). Zverev faced some challenges but ultimately saved a set point during the second-set tiebreak.

“The first match on grass is never easy. I actually think it was a very average match, but I won in the end, and that’s what counts,” Zverev stated post-match.

Engel’s remarkable achievement also places him alongside tennis legends; he becomes the youngest quarterfinalist in an ATP grass court event since Boris Becker in 1985. Engel aims to continue his dream run against Felix Auger-Aliassime, the fourth seed, who also advanced to the quarterfinals.

The Stuttgart Open stands as an important tournament as players gear up for Wimbledon, making Engel’s success a noteworthy highlight as he aims for further victories.
