Zion Williamson New Orleans Pelicans Injury

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Zion Williamson, star forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring. The team announced on Tuesday that Williamson will be sidelined for at least seven to 10 days, following his injury during a recent game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The injury came as the struggling Pelicans, who are currently winless at 0-6, prepare to host the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night. Williamson led the team in scoring, rebounds, and assists in their last game, contributing 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists to the effort.

Williamson, 25, has had a challenging past with injuries, missing more games (268) than he has played (214) since he was the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. So far this season, he has played in five games, averaging 22.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game.

The Pelicans stated that Williamson will be re-evaluated after the initial recovery period, and updates will be provided as necessary. His absence will leave a void in the lineup, as the team aims to secure its first victory of the season without their leading scorer.

As the Pelicans gear up for their upcoming games, rookie guard Jeremiah Fears is expected to step up in the starting lineup, alongside fellow guard Jordan Poole and several forwards and centers. The team continues to strategize around the significant absence of their star player as they face a crucial stretch of games.
