Elton John Princess Diana Performance Footage

London, England – Unseen footage of Princess Diana watching Elton John perform ‘Candle in the Wind’ at the Palladium has surfaced, captivating audiences once again. This emotional moment, shared during an episode of the new series ‘David Frost Vs.’, features the princess sitting in the Royal Box alongside the then-Prince of Wales in 1988.

The clip shows Diana clapping enthusiastically as Elton sings poignant lyrics, originally about Marilyn Monroe, which later became synonymous with Diana’s own life and tragic passing. “Your candle burned out long before/ Your legend ever did,” he sang, a line that would later echo through the airwaves at her funeral attended by millions.

Wilfred Frost, son of the late David Frost, discovered the footage while compiling the series dedicated to his father’s illustrious career. “I found that really extraordinary,” he said. “I sat on it for years, wondering how to showcase it tastefully.”

Wilfred and his brother George spoke about their connection to Diana, recalling her kindness and the deep bond she had with their mother. George described the footage as “mesmerizing,” noting the palpable connection between Diana and Elton during the performance.

“There was enormous crowd, and the pomp of the night, but you see that connection – Diana, looking on, transfixed, Elton singing,” said George. “It’s just incredible.”

Both brothers were young when she died, but they remember her warmth and the significant impact she had on their lives. “I can’t say I knew her very well, but she was an amazing friend to my mum,” Wilfred said.

Reflecting on the aftermath of Diana’s death, Wilfred recounted how their parents woke them in the early hours to share the news of her tragic passing. “Mum and Dad woke us all up to tell us,” he recalled. “It was striking news, and they were understandably affected.”

The new series not only highlights Wilfred’s personal connection to Diana but also showcases key interviews from David Frost’s career, which include subjects like Richard Nixon and Middle East leaders. Wilfred emphasized the cyclical nature of history highlighted in these interviews, connecting past events to current issues.

While David Frost interviewed many notable figures, Wilfred noted that he never had the chance to interview Princess Diana. “I think he would have loved to,” he said. The series ‘David Frost Vs’ invites viewers to revisit these powerful moments and explore the intricate web of history surrounding them.
