Sarah Silverman New Special Postmortem

LOS ANGELES, CA — Comedian Sarah Silverman, 54, shared a shocking revelation about her baby brother Jeffrey‘s death in a recent interview. Silverman learned from her late father, Donald, that she had been misled about the circumstances of her brother’s tragic passing.

Silverman recalled that Jeffrey, who died at just three months old, was reportedly suffocated after slipping through a crib’s side rail. ‘The story was that something happened with the crib, and Jeffrey’s little body slid and he got suffocated,’ she explained. However, she noted there was no lawsuit against the crib company which raised her suspicions.

This discussion surfaced as Silverman prepares to launch her new special, “PostMortem,” which reflects on the deaths of her parents. Donald Silverman passed away in 2023, and in their final conversation, he dropped a bombshell that altered Sarah’s understanding of the family narrative.

Donald disclosed to Sarah he believed Jeffrey’s death was not an accident but rather the result of violence by his own father, Sarah’s grandfather. ‘I always felt that he was crying or something, and my dad shook him. He shook him in a rage and killed him,’ she recalled him saying.

Reflecting on her father’s revelations, Silverman stated, ‘As soon as he said it, it was like, “Of course, that’s what happened.”‘ She lamented that she could not consult her mother, Beth Ann, who passed away in 2015, for her version of the story.

In her memoir, “The Bedwetter,” Silverman recounted their parents’ account of the events surrounding Jeffrey’s death during a family trip. Her grandparents, Max and Rose, were meant to be caring for Jeffrey at the time. A post-mortem later indicated suffocation as the cause of death.

Silverman expressed her grief and the heavy weight of the family history in the wake of this new information. The actress said her father often revealed painful truths, including his own traumatic childhood experiences. ‘He had a heartbreaking childhood,’ she said.

As she shares this part of her family’s story, Silverman aims to unpack the larger narrative of grief and loss in “PostMortem,” available to stream on Netflix starting May 20, 2025.
