Lena Dunham’s ‘Good Sex’ Explores New York Dating Scene

Los Angeles, CA — Lena Dunham is set to direct a new romantic comedy titled ‘Good Sex‘ for Netflix. The film stars Natalie Portman as Ally, a pragmatic couples therapist, who, after a failed decade-long relationship, is turning 40 and reentering the New York dating scene.
Ally’s journey takes unexpected turns as she meets two very different men; one in his 20s and another in his 50s. Both show her that there is no single formula for good sex, leading to comedic and insightful moments about love and relationships.
The cast also features Meg Ryan, known for classic rom-coms such as ‘When Harry Met Sally’ and ‘You’ve Got Mail’. Ryan will portray Ally’s free-spirited therapist, helping her navigate the complexities of dating. Rashida Jones plays Ally’s raunchy best friend, recently divorced and ready to provide her own advice. Tucker Pillsbury, who performs under the stage name Role Model, makes his acting debut in the film.
Dunham, who gained acclaim for her work on HBO’s ‘Girls‘, will produce the film alongside Portman and Sophie Mas through their production company MountainA. Michael Cohen and Dunham are also producing through Good Thing Going Productions. Executive producers include Tim Bevan, Michael Sledd, and Michaela Celella.
Although a release date has not yet been announced, fans are eagerly anticipating the film’s arrival on Netflix. Dunham’s ‘Good Sex’ is one of two romantic comedy projects she has lined up for the streaming service, the other being the series ‘Too Much‘, starring Will Sharpe and Megan Stalter, set to premiere on July 10.
Mark Ruffalo, who stars opposite Portman in the film, is coming off an Oscar nomination for his role in ‘Poor Things‘ and is featuring in several other upcoming projects. Good Sex marks a return to familiar territory for Ryan, who has not led a feature film since 2020’s ‘On the Rocks‘.
