Chris Evans Cannes Film Festival 2025

Cannes, France — Chris Evans, the famous actor known for his role as Captain America, was noticeably absent from the premiere of his new film, “Honey Don’t!” at the Cannes Film Festival this past weekend. The film had its debut screening on May 23, 2025, but Evans chose to celebrate a personal milestone instead.

In a heartfelt social media post, Evans explained that he missed the prestigious event to honor his mother, Lisa Evans, on her 70th birthday. He shared a photo of his co-stars from the film with the caption: “I wish I could’ve been with my incredible cast and filmmakers at Cannes, but it was my mother’s 70th birthday and there are some things you just can’t miss! Congrats everyone!”

Fans and fellow Reddit users have expressed understanding of Evans’ decision, emphasizing the importance he places on family values. One user noted, “He prioritizes and values family over everything else,” while another acknowledged the significance of his mother’s milestone birthday.

The film, directed by Ethan Coen and starring Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza, is a dark comedy centered around a private investigator, Honey O’Donahue, who delves into mysterious deaths linked to a local church. Despite Evans’ absence, the movie received an enthusiastic welcome, earning a six-minute standing ovation from the audience at its screening.

During the event, director Coen, known for his work on “No Country for Old Men,” thanked the audience for their positive responses. He stated, “Thank you all so much. That’s so gratifying. We’re so happy you liked the movie.” Qualley, who praised the film’s reception, added, “Thank you guys so much. I love you guys.”

Following the successful premiere, “Honey Don’t!” is set for a theatrical release on August 22, 2025, in the United States and Canada. The film features a strong supporting cast, including Charlie Day, Gabby Beans, Talia Ryder, and Billy Eichner.
