2 Chainz Shares Hilarious Moment About Working with Eminem

Malibu, CA – Rapper 2 Chainz opened up about a memorable experience recording with Eminem during a recent appearance on the podcast Club Shay Shay. He recalled how he was temporarily banned from smoking marijuana in the studio while working on tracks like “Chloraseptic” and “Kyrie & Luka.” The revelation came during a conversation with host Shannon Sharpe on May 22, 2025.
“When I did work with Eminem, I couldn’t smoke in there. It was kinda funny. It was his people, not Eminem,” 2 Chainz explained. He noted that while Eminem was busy writing, the rapper’s team took extra precautions to ensure his sobriety by placing the speakers outside for him to hear the beats.
2 Chainz described the vibrant atmosphere in Malibu, where he found himself enjoying a smoke during breaks. He shared, “It’s a beautiful day in Malibu, I’m just smoking. I come back in to do my verse and the door’s closed, and I’m in the booth smoking, and I see Em out there and I’m like, ‘he’s in there while I’m recording, that’s hard.’”
However, 2 Chainz faced a comical situation when Eminem’s team tried to prevent him from approaching the artist. “He’s about to come in and say something, but his people are like, ‘no, don’t go in there, he’s smoking,’” he added. Eminem, unaware of the fuss, was reportedly unfazed by the situation, looking at his team and saying, “Sit the f**k down, what do you think I’m about to do?”
This instance reflects Eminem’s ongoing commitment to sobriety since 2008, as he has consistently focused on his mental health. While Eminem was not involved in making the decision to restrict 2 Chainz’s smoking, it showcased the lengths his team goes to support his recovery journey.
2 Chainz has been active in the music scene lately, dropping his album Life is Beautiful with fellow artists Larry June and The Alchemist this year. His experiences in the studio with Eminem highlight their collaborative synergy, raising hopes for future projects together.
