Harry Potter Hbo Series Casting Announcement

LOS ANGELES, CA — HBO has announced the casting of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley for its upcoming Harry Potter television series. The casting was revealed on May 27, 2025, following an extensive search that saw over 30,000 young actors audition.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod expressed excitement over the new cast. “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” they said in a statement.

Filming for the series is set to begin this summer, with the first season expected to air in 2026. The search for the trio began in September 2024 and was aimed at children aged 9 to 11 living in the UK and Ireland, promoting diverse casting.

McLaughlin previously appeared in the upcoming BBC comedy series Grow, while Stanton is known for her role as Matilda in Matilda: The Musical on London’s West End. For Stout, this will be his first major acting role.

Joining the main cast are actors such as John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, among others. The show is described as a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series.

Gardiner, who is also the writer, emphasized the series’ commitment to bringing the story and characters to life for a new generation of fans. The project has generated significant interest amid controversy surrounding Rowling’s views on various social issues.

As the series gears up for production, it promises to dive deeper into the iconic series than previous adaptations, aiming to capture the rich details and beloved characters that have captivated audiences for more than two decades.
