Paul Danan Death Details

BRISLINGTON, England – Paul Danan, a former star of the U.K. soap opera Hollyoaks, died from a combination of drugs, including heroin and cocaine, while watching television at his home, according to an inquest at Avon Coroner's Court. The 46-year-old actor was found unresponsive on January 15, with emergency services pronouncing him dead shortly after arriving on the scene.

The court heard that Danan was discovered slumped on his sofa at approximately 5:20 p.m. local time, with the television still on. His girlfriend, Melissa Crooks, became concerned when she had not heard from him since early January 14, following a night out together.

A postmortem examination revealed that Danan’s death was due to combined toxicity from several substances, including heroin, methadone, codeine, pregabalin, cocaine, and zopiclone. The coroner, Debbie Rookes, stated that there was no evidence to suggest that Danan intended to take his own life, labeling his death a “misadventure.”

“Paul had a long history of drug misuse and struggles with mental health,” said Rookes during the inquest. “However, there is no evidence that he actively planned to end his life at this time.” Danan previously suffered an accidental overdose in May 2024, which he had insisted was not intended.

Emergency services were called after a neighbor climbed a ladder to look into Danan’s apartment. They found him on the sofa, leading to confirmation of his death by paramedics at the scene. Crooks identified Danan’s body, stating her concerns had prompted her to seek help.

Danan was known for his portrayal of Sol Patrick in Hollyoaks and had also appeared on reality television shows such as Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity Love Island. His management company described him as a “beacon of light” and noted the significant loss felt by those who knew him.

Prior to his death, Danan was scheduled to attend a plea hearing in connection with drug possession charges the day after on January 16. He had faced accusations of driving under the influence of drugs in the past, highlighting a turbulent struggle with addiction.

Following the inquest, many tributes poured in from fans and colleagues alike, praising his kindness and vibrant personality. “He faced life with such heart and courage,” said his friend, Calum Best. “We shared so many unforgettable moments.”
