LOS ANGELES, CA — Vanessa Kirby is set to bring life to Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, in Marvel’s upcoming film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, releasing July 25, 2025. The film marks the introduction of Marvel’s First Family into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Kirby, who describes herself as “such a Sue nerd,” prepared extensively for the role, diving deep into Sue’s character and comic book history. “I think I out-nerded everyone in that room,” Kirby shared in an interview with Empire. Her passion included studying advanced topics like quantum physics, highlighting her commitment to portraying the character authentically.

The character of Sue Storm, according to director Matt Shakman, is depicted as the “inspiring, idealistic leader” of the Fantastic Four. He likened her to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, emphasizing her role as a unifying force in the team.

Notably, this version of Sue Storm is pregnant, adding a new layer of depth to her relationship with Reed Richards, known as Mr. Fantastic, played by Pedro Pascal. The impending arrival of their child raises the stakes in their fight against the planet-eating villain, Galactus.

Kirby teased that it’s not just adults who have superpowers, suggesting the inclusion of their son, Franklin Richards, in the narrative. “You don’t mess with family,” she joked. This addition sets the stage for a multi-generational story within the film, which differentiates it from past adaptations.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige expressed excitement about the film, hoping to do justice to the iconic group. With the MCU now exploring the Fantastic Four’s rich history and thematic elements, fans can anticipate a fresh take on their beloved characters.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps promises to blend action and family dynamics as it explores the journeys of its heroes in a unique retro-futuristic setting. Fans of comic books and cinema alike are eager for the film’s release, eager to see Kirby’s dedication to the role unfold on screen.
