Baz Luhrmann Elvis Presley Documentary

LOS ANGELES, CA — Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann has announced a new project focused on Elvis Presley. The Oscar-nominated director revealed the upcoming documentary on social media Friday, promising fans never-before-seen footage of the legendary singer.

“During the making of ELVIS, we went on a search for rumored unseen footage from the iconic 1970s concert films That’s The Way It Is and Elvis on Tour,” Luhrmann shared with his followers. He noted that researchers spent time in the Warner Bros. film vaults, where they discovered 68 boxes of film negatives and hidden 8mm footage.

“One of the great finds has been unheard recordings of Elvis talking about his life and his music,” he added. This discovery inspired the new film, tentatively titled EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert. Luhrmann emphasized that it is not a conventional documentary or concert film.

After two years of work, Luhrmann is eager for fans to see the results. The film is set for release later this year, following the success of his previous Elvis biopic, which grossed approximately US$288 million globally.

Released in June 2022, Luhrmann’s ELVIS became Australia’s second-largest film opening. The film featured Austin Butler, who received acclaim for his portrayal of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

“I highly, highly recommend you all go out to see it,” actor Hugh Jackman said of Luhrmann’s previous work.

While Luhrmann and his wife, costume designer Catherine Martin, have been living separately in recent years, their creative collaboration continues to thrive. Luhrmann, known for films like Moulin Rouge! and The Great Gatsby, remains a significant figure in the movie industry.
