Ford, Chrysler Lead Major Vehicle Recalls This Week

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced several major vehicle recalls last week, affecting millions of cars due to software errors that impact rearview camera functionality.
Ford Motor Company recalled over 1 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles due to a software error that may cause rearview camera images to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse. The company reported no known injuries but acknowledged one claim of minor property damage linked to the issue. Notification letters will be sent to vehicle owners on June 16, with solutions expected to be available in the third quarter of 2025.
The vehicles affected in this recall total 1,075,299, and the necessary software updates will be executed through dealers or as an over-the-air update.
Additionally, Stellantis recalled 235,640 Ram ProMaster vehicles from model years 2022-2025 because their rearview cameras may not properly display images. This recall is due to a software error in the security gateway module. Stellantis stated it has not received reports of accidents or injuries related to this problem. Owner notification letters are set to be mailed on June 19.
Volkswagen is also involved in the series of recalls, with 171,381 Atlas Cross Sport and Atlas vehicles affected by a software error that may distort rearview camera images. Dealers will provide necessary updates free of charge, with owner notifications scheduled for July 1.
Nissan‘s recall involves 79,755 2025 Frontier and Kicks vehicles, which may display a blank screen in their center information display when shifted into reverse. Dealers will update the software free of charge, with notifications expected on July 1.
The NHTSA continues to update vehicle owners through their website, where individuals can check for recalls using their vehicle identification number (VIN). The organization urges drivers to remain cautious and verify their vehicle’s safety when reversing.
