Tramell Tillman Embraces Fame and Complex Roles in Hollywood

NEW YORK, NY — Tramell Tillman, known for his role as Seth Milchik in the Apple TV+ series Severance, recently shared insights about his rise to fame during a lunch at Cafe Luxembourg on the Upper West Side. He reflected on his journey, from meeting executive producer Ben Stiller shortly after landing his role to his current success in Hollywood.
Since Severance’s second season aired in March, Tillman has gained a significant following, bolstered by his participation in the eagerly awaited film Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. ‘I’m excited and honored to be part of such a long-standing franchise,’ he said, underscoring the significance of his role as Bledsoe, the captain of a submarine in the film.
Tillman described the changes he’s noticed since becoming more recognizable. Eyebrows raised when he mentioned an increased number of people recognizing him in public. ‘I prefer to be low-key,’ he explained. While some encounters have been ‘uncomfortable,’ including a neighbor sprinkling black pepper at his doorstep for superstitious reasons, he remains grounded.
Reflecting on his experiences in Hollywood, he acknowledged a ‘disconnect’ between the glitzy events he attends and his everyday life. ‘I come home and I’m like, I don’t have any groceries,’ he shared with a laugh, illustrating the stark contrast between the glamour of a Hollywood life and the mundane aspects of his real-life responsibilities.
Tillman also spoke about his aspirations for more roles that highlight diversity and complexity. ‘I’m very intentional about how these characters are presented,’ he remarked, emphasizing the importance of giving depth to LGBTQ+ characters in his performances. ‘I never want them to be seen as a joke.’
His hopes for the future include a variety of genres and pivotal projects, from Black noir films to comedies. He dreams of taking on roles that resonate with his personal journey and provide representation. ‘I love developing strong relationships with people,’ he said, indicating his desire to connect meaningfully with audiences.
With awards season approaching, Tillman expresses hope for recognition at events like the Emmys. ‘It would mean being seen, being validated,’ he noted, grasping the importance of acknowledgment for his hard work.
As he prepares for upcoming roles and events, including a presentation at the BAFTA TV Awards, Tillman looks forward to continuing his journey in a world that increasingly celebrates his authenticity and talent.
