Texas, Texas Tech Battle for First Softball Championship Title

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Women’s College World Series (WCWS) championship series kicks off Wednesday with No. 6 Texas facing No. 13 Texas Tech in a best-of-three series to crown the 2025 national champion. Both teams enter the final round with undefeated records in the double-elimination tournament at Devon Park.
This championship matchup revives the long-standing Big 12 rivalry, with neither team having previously won a national title in softball. Texas advanced by defeating four-time defending champions Oklahoma on Monday, while Texas Tech overcame Tennessee to secure their spot in the finals.
The first game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN, featuring play-by-play commentary from Beth Mowins and analysis from Jessica Mendoza and Michele Smith. Holly Rowe will serve as the sideline reporter.
The WCWS began on May 29, narrowing from an initial field of 64 teams to just two competing for the title. The championship series could extend to three games, concluding either June 5 or June 6. Fans can watch via the ESPN app, requiring a cable login, or through ESPN’s subscription service.
This year marks a significant moment for both Texas and Texas Tech as they aim for their first national title in softball history, showcasing talent on both sides. As the games unfold, tension will mount as players fight to become the inaugural champions from Texas.
