Marcus King Band Shares Intimate Performance from Red Rocks

MORRISON, Colo. — The Marcus King Band delivered a special performance at Red Rocks on June 4, 2025, as part of a unique “Trail Mix Session.” This event showcased their talents in a more stripped-down setting just before their scheduled set at the iconic venue on May 10.
“Every time we come here, it’s a real honor to be a part of it,” said frontman Marcus King, reflecting on the historical significance of Red Rocks. He described the experience as spiritual, emphasizing their aim to connect deeply with the venue’s natural beauty. “It felt really great,” he added.
The band began their set with a lively new track, marking their first group recording since the 2018 album, Carolina Confessions. Following this, they debuted “On and On,” a soulful unreleased song, the next night in Wichita, Kansas.
As a tribute to the late Southern rock pioneer Dickey Betts, the group delivered a potent cover of the Allman Brothers Band classic “Ramblin’ Man,” showcasing a mesmerizing exchange between King and guitarist Drew Smithers.
King, a third-generation musician, shared insights into his family’s musical legacy. He mentioned his grandfather’s country roots and his father’s rock influence, highlighting how their shared love for music shaped his life. “It’s an honest way of making a living,” King said. “It’s also just a really good way to bring peace to your inner self. We grew up playing in church and it was encouraged from a young age – something I always like to preach.”
The Marcus King Band continues their 2025 tour with a performance at the CMA Fest in Nashville on June 5. Upcoming highlights include a 15-stop tour in Europe and their annual Marcus King Band Family Reunion Festival on August 23 and 24 in Charleston, S.C.
