TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Angela Suggs, the Vice President and Director of Athletics at Florida A&M University (FAMU), has turned herself in to authorities following her arrest on multiple criminal charges.

Suggs faces one felony count of grand theft, one felony count of scheme to defraud, and four misdemeanor counts of false claims related to travel vouchers. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) confirmed her arrest, and she was booked into the Leon County Jail with a bond set at $13,500.

The investigation into Suggs began in November 2024 after the FDLE received a criminal referral from the Florida Department of Commerce’s Inspector General. The referral was sparked by an audit of Suggs’ business credit card purchases while she served as the president and CEO of the Florida Sports Foundation (FSF) from 2017 until she assumed her current role at FAMU on October 7, 2024.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Suggs allegedly misused her FSF-issued credit card. She reportedly made unauthorized wire transfers and cash withdrawals, as well as personal purchases, including expenses at casinos during business trips. The total amount of improper spending exceeded $24,000.

Suggs allegedly falsified travel vouchers by categorizing these unauthorized charges as business meals. When confronted about these charges, she claimed that some were business-related and that others had been accidentally charged to the business account, but she did not fully repay the FSF for her personal expenses.

In response to the allegations, FAMU Interim President Dr. Timothy Beard released a statement acknowledging the situation. He noted that while the matter does not pertain to her current role at FAMU, the university is monitoring the developments and will respond appropriately in the future.

The case is being prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, Second Judicial Circuit, and the FDLE’s investigation remains ongoing.
