Missile Barrage Escalates Israel-Iran Tensions, Casualties Reported

Tel Aviv, Israel — Tensions between Israel and Iran escalated dramatically on Saturday as both nations exchanged missile strikes, leading to casualties and fears of a broader conflict. At least three Israelis have been killed and more than 200 others injured as Iran launched a series of ballistic missiles targeting Israel’s northern region, particularly Haifa, where the country’s largest oil refinery is located.
Sirens blared across northern Israel as military defenses prompted millions of Israelis to seek shelter. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) instructed civilians to remain close to bomb shelters, highlighting the urgent threat posed by the Iranian missile barrage.
In retaliation, the Israeli Air Force targeted key Iranian oil installations, including a massive oil depot in Shahran, northwest of Tehran. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz shared dramatic images of the attack, stating, “Tehran is ablaze.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to target every site associated with the Iranian regime in response to the attacks.
“What they have felt so far is nothing compared to what they will feel in the coming days,” Netanyahu said in a video address, emphasizing Israel’s commitment to national security as the conflict escalates.
Recent exchanges have already resulted in significant casualties, with at least six Israelis confirmed dead due to Iranian missile strikes on residential areas. Among the victims was a 73-year-old man, Yisrael Aloni, who died when Iranian rockets hit his home in Rishon Lezion.
Netanyahu’s declaration of war comes amid a backdrop of mounting international tensions, with the upcoming nuclear talks between the United States and Iran now canceled. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned of a “more severe” response if attacks continued.
Amid the violence, billionaire Elon Musk announced the activation of the Starlink satellite communications system in Iran after the country cut off internet access for its citizens.
Reports also indicate that a U.S. Navy destroyer in the eastern Mediterranean intercepted Iranian missiles aimed at Israel, demonstrating the increasing involvement of global powers in this conflict.
As the situation develops, Israel’s main international airport, Ben Gurion, has been closed indefinitely. Israeli officials emphasize that operational military actions will continue until the Iranian threat is neutralized, raising fears of a prolonged and devastating conflict in the region.
